Xos is short for 'exosphere', which is the outermost layer of the earth's atmosphere. This name really speaks to our forward-thinking approach to building zero-emissions commercial vehicles that are already disrupting the way companies like UPS and Loomis conduct business.
Xos Trucks was founded on the issues that fleet owners and operators face. Our technology is purpose-built for commercial vehicles. We engineer custom battery packs, a battery management system, and a modular chassis called the X-Platform. These components and products are all designed and assembled in our Los Angeles and Tennessee facilities. Xos technology can power any truck developed for return-to-base last-mile delivery routes with a range of 200 miles or fewer.
In 2019 alone, medium- and heavy-duty trucks traveled 318,030 million miles on our roads according to the EPA. And all of those miles come at a serious cost. Commercial vehicles represent only 5% of total vehicles on the road but account for 20% of U.S. transportation emissions. They’re also driving almost half as many miles as passenger vehicles but contribute about an equal amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
